Mayercraft 2: Some highlights!

Well, I'm back at work today (thank GOD for that extra day off that I took!), and of course, things should be crazy. But, I felt like I had to post more about Mayercraft (trust me, there are FAR more blogs on this to come, also), because I'm not quite ready to admit it's over.

Guys, we had such an amazing time. After all of last year's drama from American Airlines losing our luggage and us missing shows because we were on the phone with them being jerked around, this year was the greatest thing that could ever have happened. Sixthman and all of the people who work for them are amazing and deserve awards, if you ask me.

So. I'll get more in depth with the artists and food and boat and sights and John Mayer and the fabulous time we had later, but here are some of our top moments from the trip.

1) The sail away show. John Mayer on a stage in the sun as we sailed out of Los Angeles into the vast Pacific Ocean. He played more acoustic stuff - some older stuff, some "up to date" stuff, and debuted his new song "Heartbreak Warfare" (See video below). It's pretty great. Playlist from that show: Good Love Is On The Way, Belief, My Stupid Mouth, Clarity, Sucker, Heartbreak Warfare, Heart of Life, Who Did You Think I Was, Neon.

2) Pop trivia. We sucked, but it was so much fun! Ryan Shaw was an awesome host, and though I don't know where the hell they came up with some of those questions, a good time was had by all.

3) John Mayer show. You can't lose with his shows, really. He again played "Heartbreak Warfare," and it was even better with a full band. But my favorite parts? His cover of "Burning Down The House," by Talking Heads, and that he played "3x5."

Side note: "3x5" will always be one of my favorites of his, simply for the fact that every time I hear it, I'm transported back to the trip to Italy on which Sean and I became friends. I have this perfectly clear memory of sitting on the bus next to Sean while traveling from Assisi to Florence, listening to that song on my iPod while looking out at the Tuscan countryside. It was one of those moments in life where you have this clear recognition that the way you're feeling at that moment is really, really important. So yeah, it was so awesome to hear him play that one live.

Playlist from that show: Belief, Crossroads, I Don't Trust Myself (With Loving You), Good Love Is On The Way, Slow Dancing In A Burning Room, Vultures, Heart Of Life (with In Repair), Waiting On The World To Change, Wheel (with a "Comfortable" reference in a story), Why Georgia, Bigger Than My Body, Heartbreak Warfare, Burning Down The House (SO RAD!), Love Soon, 3x5 (If I Had A Boat), Gravity (with Dreams to Remember).

4) James Smith's comedy show on Sunday night. It helped that John Mayer was there, but let me tell you something - that dude is fucking funny. I have a couple of videos from his show, and I'll post them at some point, but seriously. Rad. He had a joke about the plane crash into the Hudson and it was GOLD. It also led to all of us saying "SWERVE, motha fucka'" the rest of the trip. I'll try and find a clip so that you all can get that, but essentially he was questioning why the pilot couldn't avoid the geese in an open sky.

After James Smith's show, John Mayer and his brother Carl Mayer both did some stuff, and let's just say it was a bit shocking. I get that JM was going for shock value, but damn. Some things should really be left unsaid. And Carl Mayer? Let's just say "Hormel Meat & Cheese plate," and leave it at that. However, John Mayer did throw out one of my favorite lines ever: "Yeah, so the tabloids are now saying that I've signed up to get $10 million for a tell all book about my last relationship. You KNOW this isn't true... I would do it for SO much less than that!" Hehe. A joke, of course, but funny all the same.

Anyway - James Smith. Check him out if you get a chance, I know I'll be keeping an eye out for when he's in LA!

5) Dancing in the Disco. Sunday night we danced from 12:30am (after the comedy show) till 4am. Monday, it was 2am to 4am. It was so much fun to just get out there with the girls and have loads of fun. John Mayer DJ'ed on Monday while we were there, and let's just say he shouldn't quit his day job. Because that man? AWFUL DJ. He did get points for the three Prince songs, and for playing Journey's "Don't Stop Believin'" not just once, but twice. Disco music? Not so much. Totally awesome anyway? DEFINITELY. We were totally the ones on the edge of the dance floor rocking out to it both times.

6) Guster playing the Lido deck and getting all the available artists to come on stage with them to jam. This was such an amazing show. Guster played their set, and then got O.A.R. and musicians to come on stage and they just jammed for 3 HOURS! They played everything from "American Girl" and "Margaritaville" to "Brown Eyed Girl," "Faith" and "Country Road." It was seriously one of the best music experiences ever. All those incredible musicians, having a blast and messing around. Simply splendid.

So, those were some of the best moments. I'm still sorting through photos and trying to get them online, so that will be coming soon, I promise. I think I got some really cool shots of the artists, the (ugly) boat, the interesting people, and the sights, so keep it tuned in!

I reluctantly went to a John Mayer concert last summer. I was pleasantly surprised. He's a really good musician.

Adriana, I was surprised to see in the middle of this post, a piece of pure poetry: It was one of those moments in life where you have this clear recognition that the way you're feeling at that moment is really, really important.

That Guster show was AMAZING! Standing on the deck singing along with you and Marie was one of my favorite parts of the cruise...and dancing til the wee hours of the night...you know what...there wasn't a whole lot of bad things I can say. I'd have to say this was one of my favorite vacations I have ever been on!
