Market it to me.

When I initially decided to major in Marketing Communications in college, it had largely to do with the fact that I would get lots of cool business and communications courses, without the evil math parts of a normal Business degree. It was a brand new degree about a new-ish concept, and people would constantly tell me I was on the "cusp" of the new trend in business and marketing. "Yeah, whatever," I thought at the time. "I'm just trying to avoid taking calculus."

Then I kind of fell in love with marketing.

I love a really well put together marketing campaign. I know, this makes me a geek of an entirely new level, but it's true.

I decided to not actually WORK in marketing because I have yet to find a company with a marketing department that doesn't suck the soul out of you. (Perhaps a drawback to living in Los Angeles?) But I still enjoy marketing campaigns, and two have specifically stuck out for me lately, so I thought I would share my geekiness here on the Internet.

Campaign 1: Los Angeles Metro "Go Metro" campaign

This campaign came out shortly after gas hit $4.50/gallon last year in Los Angeles. I, for one, think that it's brilliant. My favorite is the "Bitter" and "Sweet" one. These campaigns make me wish that I lived somewhere that it would actually be reasonable to take public transportation into work. Unfortunately, while our gorgeous canyon is awesome for getting out of the grind of LA, it doesn't exactly cater to buses or Metro lines. Too bad.

Campaign 2: Sixthman "Live Loud" campaign

I love the tag lines, and the best one for me is the "Your life goes to number 11." BRILLIANT! (Also, if you don't get that one, I'm not sure we can keep being friends.) It's just a simple campaign, but it's clear and concise and smart. And I love the sort of "edgy" vibe they've got going on - this is who we are and we identify with you. Genius.

So tell me. Am I the only one who geeks out over this? Is there a campaign that's stuck out for you in the past?

My favorite part of studying journalism was the Advertising portion and I, too, enjoy a good ad campaign.

But I guess we can't be blog friends anymore because I totally don't get the last campaign. I'm soooo not cool and I know it! :(

Ok... I guess we can still be friends. ;-) No, it's a reference to the movie Spinal Tap. One of the best scenes from the movie.

Oh yes I notice these things, of course. It's my life now. Faves:

-The Benjamin Button movie posters: I thought it was genius how they put the word "Life" forward over her face, backward over his. Simple, understated, yet sums up the whole movie.

-Unicef: "Valley Girls, like, help." Love it. Identify with it. I want to own one.

-Gatorade: These are my absolute favorites. They started with just one word, then a couple weeks later, they filled the posters in so you knew what they were advertising. Great for commuters who pass the same posters everyday.

Oh my gosh, the Unicef one is so awesome! Yes, those all stand out, too. I'm so glad you identify on this one!

so, when Aaron tried to order me a surprise present when we first started dating (it never arrived b/c apparently this online poster company charges you and then does not send things), and I found out that it was a Spinal Tap poster, I knew it was love.

Also, he bought me the dvd when the poster never showed up.

Also, I love that movie and had a work buddy who could source lines all day and make my work day go by hilariously.

Also, I researched Metro A LOT when I was thinking of coming down there, and I fell a little in love with L.A. because of it.

Also, I miss you.
