This oversleeping thing? Has got to stop.

I overslept AGAIN this morning.

My normal schedule? First alarm goes off at 5am. Second alarm goes off at 5:15am. I'm supposed to be out of bed by 5:20am, and out of the house between 6:15am and 6:25am to get to work by 7am.

My schedule lately? First alarm goes off at 5am. Second alarm may or may not go off, but either way, it's not waking me up. I wake up already in a panic, knowing that if my alarm isn't going off, we have a problem. I check my phone, and it reads somewhere between 6:15am (if I'm lucky) and 6:42am (if I'm totally screwed). The following minutes include me leaping out of bed, cursing, rushing, tripping over things in my haste, and rapidly going through my morning routine, and trying my best to get out of the house at least before 7am.

This morning it was 6:32am. I was showered and out of the house by 6:48am, which I think is quite a feat, actually. Granted, I had no idea what I was wearing, if my shoes matched (they did, fortunately), had no jewelry on and was wearing no makeup, but at least I was out of the house.

I cannot for the life of me figure out what the problem is. Why these last weeks, of any weeks, have I been oversleeping so much?

Last week I thought it was because I sometimes have trouble sleeping when Sean isn't home. He worked four days last week, so I was convinced that was the case. But he was home last night, and groggily woke up when I started to panic this morning, asking if there was anything he could do. So, maybe that's not it. (Sean, if you're reading this, I formally apologize for snapping "Stay out of my damn way" this morning when you were trying to be nice.)

Then, Shannon suggested I haven't adjusted to daylight savings time yet. Which again, could be possible, but come on. It's never been an issue before.

Regardless of what is causing the problem - it's irritating. I think I'm going to buy an alarm clock today, as my cell phone obviously is no longer cutting it. Or, I'll plug my cell phone in on the other side of the room. Stop using two alarms so my body subconsciously thinks it's ok to sleep through them.

Something. Because I absolutely HATE being late to work... even if I'm the first one there and no one really knows I'm late in the first place.

Maybe you just need more sleep? I hate hate hate that feeling of getting up late and frantically trying to get out the door. Guaranteed to throw off my day to the point of no return!

I think its time for an animal. If we don't get up at the same time every day, Heathcliff makes it his mission to wake us up. He knows his food is dependent on awake us - so he is the best built in alarm clock there is...except for the weekends where I shove his orange a$$ off the bed...a lot.

Nilsa - I think that might be it. But unfortunately, I've been having a hard time going to bed earlier! I can't sleep so I put a movie on or something... Maybe I should try some breathing or stretching of some sort.

DB - Hehehe I just picture your cat flying across the room because he tried to wake you up on a Saturday. LOL. Yes, we were thinking maybe a dog anyway, another friend suggested that too.

Yeah me too. I thought it was Daylight Savings, because it's happening earlier than before, but today I decided it's because I hate going to work and have no motivation.

I'd been having that problem too recently!! The cell phone hadn't been waking me up and I found myself waking up 45 minutes later than I needed to be up.

I eventually started using an alarm clock as a "back-up" and it apparently scared the cell phone into buzzing loud enough to wake me. :-)

Do you have allergies? I don't have many but for some reason, this time of year kills me (which doesn't make sense because NOTHING is blooming right now - it's too cold.) Anyway, this time of year I'm always stuffed up and completely exhausted.

I'm sorry, waking up in a panic is a really unpleasant way to start the day. When are you going to bed? When I don't get enough sleep, I start including my alarm in my dreams and turning it off without being really aware of it. Maybe you just need to go to bed earlier? Try some meditation before going to bed? Hit the gym in the evening? Good luck.

I've been having the same problem lately. I know it's not daylight savings time. It's just me being tired. Let me know how you fix it!

Sarah - yeah, that might be it, too.

Kim - my next step is to get another alarm. Silly cell phone! Maybe I should just change the ringer to something more obnoxious?

Hillary - I've never really had bad allergies, but we do live in a new location this year, and I have been a bit wheezy. Maybe I've developed some?

Alex - I have been going to be a bit late. I guess I'm just old now and can't have caffeine after 4pm or something.

Andrea - I'll keep you posted!

Doing my cardio always helps me fall asleep. Artificial light (from computers, t.v., etc.) fools the body and keeps it from winding down (I recently read that this is why we are increasingly turning into zombies as a modern society). I recently also found that making sure I have some time to read before bed always gets me to sleep faster. As far as waking up? If I set the auto coffee maker the smell of coffee has been making me wake up BEFORE my alarm goes off.....and you know how much I love my sleep.

Lastly, quality of sleep matters---if you aren't going to sleep early enough to get your ideal amt. of hours, your body doesn't bound into the restful sleep phase (I forget what it is called)---and my friend (in his 30's) told me he started to feel it at 26. We can no longer get away with subpar rest. How sad.

I completely feel your pain. I am having the hardest time waking up in the mornings too. I hit snooze so many times, I don't even realize it until I finally get up and it's 20 minutes later than I want it to be. It sucks. I blame it on allergies - it's starting to get all kinds of polleny outside in GA.
