Same old, same old.

Well, Sarah Palin did much better than most people expected last night. The small part of me was kind of bummed out that she didn't have any major flubs that Biden could rip her apart for. But I am mostly a little relieved that she can be coached into being a reasonably acceptable speaker. She is still too snarky. She still repeated the same points over and over again, and didn't answer questions clearly. She was still a tad condescending. But she wasn't a total fuck up, so I guess that's progress?

One thing that bothered me greatly about Palin's performance? This answer: "I may not answer the question the way you want to hear, but I'll talk straight to the American people and let them know my track record."

My response to that? Screw Palin's track record! If people want to know about her track record, they can read about it. Or, they can listen to the eight hundred other speeches she's given about her track record. Americans need to know where the Republican Vice Presidential candidate stands on on the issues. THOSE are the questions being asked. And she simply couldn't answer the questions, because they deviated from what she was drilled on. Answer the damn questions and stop avoiding and changing the subject.

On the other hand, my support for Joe Biden has increased. While Sarah Palin went into the debate trying to prove her small town, "everyday American" roots, Joe Biden surpassed her effortlessly. His answers and demeanor related me to him far more than Palin's "folksy" love-me-I'm-a-beauty-queen-who-can-take-on-the-world deal. As I've said, I don't want the "Average American" in office. I want the above average intelligent American, and Joe Biden solidified his image as that last night.

More more in depth reviews, the Huffington Post has an extensive number of (left leaning) links about last night's debates.

On a different note, Rachel over at The Rhyme and Reason of Rachel posted a blog about this forward that has been going around. While it would never happen, it sure is nice to think about, and it definitely puts a few things into perspective.

And Cheryl over at Places Never Planned posted an absolutely hilarious video that must be seen by all.

Whew!

I think I'll try and take a break from politics for a bit... I leave next week for my trip and am super excited. I may be a bit absent next week as I'll be trying to cram an extra 7 days into the three and a half I'll be in the office next week. Hope everyone has a nice weekend!

The biggest problem with that video is that now the song is stuck in my head...sigh.

I agree with you 100%, I want smart people running my country. That just makes sense.

Yeah that answer on the debate annoyed me too. She thinks she's a 'maverick' just because she avoided a question, and this time announced she was doing it on purpose? Nah.

Sorry, but if you're going to be VP, you're going to have to stand up for yourself (and um, the country) without pointing out how great you think you are.

Thanks for the note! I was surprised anyone even read such a long post, but thank you! I agree with you too, yesterday I was canvassing for Barack and will probably post up something about that, seeing that the one long conversation we had with someone who was on the fence was a female African-American who believed Palin did better than Biden in the debate.

WTF?

Hey, sorry to just now respond, but I forgot about my Google Reader (gasp!) for a few days. I deleted that post because as someone pointed out (and I obviously didn't notice myself), the math was totally incorrect and it would have only been $425 per person - sorry for the confusion!!!
