I have two alarms on my cell phone that I use. The first is set for 5:00am, and the second for 5:20am. I wake up after the first and turn it off, then snooze for the next 20 minutes till the other one goes off. Only yesterday? Yesterday I remember waking up at 5am for the first one. Then I slowly woke up, almost naturally, and glanced at the time on my phone. I saw :18, so I relaxed and closed my eyes again, waiting for the next two minutes to pass and my alarm to go off. When it took a while, I checked the clock again. It was 20 after, all right, but it was 6:20am!
I hate when that kind of thing happens, because you get this horribly panicked feeling. I rushed through my morning routine and was out of the house by 6:50. I was about an hour late to work, though, since leaving 35 minutes later than normal added 50 minutes to my commute! Boo.
Today I started to research how much money (according to Kelley Blue Book) I'll be able to get when I have to sell my 2000 Civic and get a new car. I have almost 221,000 miles on my 9 year old car! We bought the car on October 26, 1999 and I am so attached to it. I have been putting off the idea of a new car, but the time is coming soon. There are about $1,500+ in repairs that I will have to make in the next year if I keep driving at the rate of miles I do now. For the last 4 years, I've been putting 80-90 miles on my car PER DAY. And even though I've taken immaculate care of the car, maintenance wise, that's just too many miles. The car needs an owner that doesn't drive as heavily as I do.
Anyway, I was pleased to see that the number KBB gave me was much higher than I'd expected, and will ease some of the pain of buying a new/used car. I have narrowed down my two favorite options for a new car to a Honda CRV or a Honda Civic. And I'm open to both new and certified used - I'm basically going to look for the best factory warranty, combined with the lowest interest rate I can find.
And then I'm going to bring my dad along with me, because he won't stand for any kind of shit from car dealers.

I took my dad with me when I bought my first brand new car (I was trading in my '92 Explorer with 185,000 miles in on a brand new '02 Explorer). I always say that I will take him with me to the dealership no matter what because he's so good at making sure they give the best deal possible. When we went to buy my car, they were doing the whole 0% financing for 5 years deal, and while he had no intention of buying himself a new car because he had just bought a new 4 Runner the year before, he got this dealer thinking that he was going to trade that in and buy himself a new car and I was going to buy one, too, and then he'd get two sales at the same time. He went so far as to let them appraise his car and get approved for financing. But, when my mom left the dealership with my brother while we were still talking details, I KNEW that he wasn't really going to do it...he would never buy a car without my mom present, so at that point, I realized he was TOTALLY playing this dealer... He had talked him down on the price of my car for my deal, and as soon as I got my signature on my paperwork, he told the dealer he changed his mind!!! I walked away with 0% financing for 60 months, and 1200 bucks worth of free stuff in my car! ;) Way to go, Dad!
KBB has been the deliverer of wonderful news lately. Especially for the little cars- because even though there's a ton of mileage? There is such a demand for them now. Love it, I'll be doing the same thing with my Focus soon enough :)
I HATE car shopping. Seriously loathe it. When I went to buy my car by myself, I was almost swindled by a dealership to buy a piece of crap. They had me in there, ready to sign on the dotted line. When things just didn't feel right. And I backed out, much to their dismay. Ugh. I'll never try to buy a car by myself again!
