And then I delved into politics.

Disclaimer: What I wrote below are my beliefs. I am not in any way claiming that they are the only valid beliefs out there. In fact, I have mostly stayed away from writing about politics because I so strongly support people's rights to different beliefs. But this morning I felt the need to express my beliefs, and one of the reasons I created this blog was to do just that. Feel free to read this post (or not), and also to let me know what you think. (I'm delicate, though, so I'd appreciate not getting hate comments)

Sarah Palin scares me. I was intrigued when McCain picked her to be his running mate, and had no opinion of her to start out with. And now? The more I read about her, the more it cements in my mind that McCain must be defeated come November.

The bottom line is that before John McCain picked Sarah Palin, I was *almost* ok with the idea that he could be president. Of course, I would prefer Barack Obama, and will vote for him. But, I wasn't stressed out, because I have heard about McCain since 2000 and have always thought him to be one of the lesser evils of politics.

But now I am terrified of what would happen if the two of them were to get into office. Two main reasons: (1) they, as an administration, would potentially be responsible for nominating Supreme Court Justices (you know, the ones who decide about laws) and (2) what if the worst were to happen and McCain died? That whack job would be our president!

Some things about Sarah Palin that I have been reading lately:

- She either is a flat out liar, she has ridiculously stupid speech writers, or her speech writers are flat out liars and she's too stupid to get new ones. (None of these are good options.)
- She didn't know what the Bush Doctrine was.
- She attends and supports a church which is involved in an upcoming conference that promises to teach attendees how to "overcome homosexuality."
- She believes it's right to deny benefits to same sex couples, and believes that marriage should only be between a man and a woman.
- When she became mayor of Wasilla, she "asked the library how she could go about banning books."
- Palin is under investigation for the termination of someone who wouldn't carry out her personal vendetta.

Articles you could read if you were so inclined (yes, they lean towards the left).

Here is my question to the women out there:
(1) If you are a woman, Democrat or Republican, do you honestly believe that Sarah Palin is a good political figure? (I'm serious, here, I really would like to know because the media is all over her being popular and loved, etc and I don't see it.)

But listen. Whether or not you agree with me, whether you support Obama & Biden or McCain & Palin or independents, do your civic duty this November. Read about the issues, go to On The Issues and check out the candidate(s) you like the best. Or, hell, just go to a polling place on election day and blindly fill out the bubbles. Ok, don't do that. But get out there! Show that you care enough about your country to get off your lazy butt an GO VOTE!

I agree with you. She doesn't scare me as much being VP, but the thought of her being "a heartbeat away from the Presidency" scares the ever lovin' crap out of me. It will be interesting to see how she holds up in the debates. Joe Biden knows his stuff and is ready to be President should something happen to Obama, but I can't say the same for Palin.

As a woman: In this race, I don't see gender. I see decisions, opinions and actions, and I don't like hers.

All I'll say is that McCain isn't my choice. Especially with Palin as the VP. SCary.

I completely agree with you. And I also feel like she is hurting many of the things women generations before us worked so hard for. She is ignorant, and I don't see any good coming out of her being the VP. And we thought Bush had problems...sigh.

I just hope people will open their eyes and actually listen to what the candidates have to say. And not just vote for a party blindly.

Can't say I agree with you on most things - I'm not a democrat, so of course I wouldn't. :)

However, I am a bit troubled myself. I'm all for women in politics and in power...but I do find it troubling that if this person is one step away from the presidency, what are her qualifications? That's great and all that she has been in Alaska..and they have oil there that's important....but what else? Is that all there is? I also think that while children are a reflection of their own choices - so too do they reflect the parents who raised them. I know you and I certainly do reflect the values our Mom's gave us. So...teen pregnancy say anything to you? What kind of household was that to grow up in, I have to wonder...(totally not related, I know..but I do wonder). The whole soccer mom angle doesn't work for me, and she plays that a lot. "I'm just a rural mom," blah blah..sure you are...

Having said that, I am very conflicted come November. I am biding my time hoping for more options. (sorry, can't buy in/sign on to the Obama crusade either...)

Wow; what an insightful post! Even though this isn't my area of speciality, I do agree with you.

There is a Facebook group called "I Have More Foreign Affairs Experience Than Sarah Palin." Hilariously true. And then the reality of it sets in. Fucking scary.

Hey! I found your blog though Jessicas. I agree 10000% with what you're saying. John McCain is a complete moron for picking her. He picked her for shock value and not for any of her experience (because she doesn't have any!!) and it's going to screw him. She is a sad excuse for a woman in politics. Reading your blog just scared me that much more than yes, she could possibly be VP or even President some day. Yikes!
